Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin is always looking for professional crew to work on Wisconsin’s State Flagship, the S/V Denis Sullivan based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

We hire for the following crew positions:

Experienced Mates

We have four main hiring seasons for two- to four-month contracts (all dates are tentative):

May to September: You can experience education programming and sailing on several of the Great Lakes.

September to December: A transit out of the Great Lakes in the fall to the tropical saltwater seas via the St. Lawrence Seaway and the east coast of the U.S.

December to April: Winter education programming centered out of southern Florida with trips to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

April to June: Her return transit in the spring to her homeport at Pier Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI.

Due to the extreme and often inclement conditions of the transits, we prefer to hire crew with proven seaworthiness for the fall and spring, we prefer to secure all contracts in advance.

Required qualifications

All crew must have the legal right to work in the U.S.

Chief Mate

A Master 100-ton / Mate 200-ton near costal will qualify on a coastal cruise. Open ocean cruise tracks (sometimes on transits) would require an Ocean license.

Licensed 2nd and 3rd mates: are strongly encouraged. However with the approval of the Master of the vessel 2+ years of experience may be sufficient.

Tall ship sailing experience, ability and desire to educate people of all ages. Additional education experience.
