Theater Technician
Part-Time
15-25 per week
Description
As part of the theater team, the Theater Technician maintains all audio, visual, and theatrical equipment within the Innovation and Digital Theaters. This job requires the technician to play and/or program HD movies at scheduled times throughout the day. This position includes monitoring films, greeting guests, and ensuring a high quality experience for all patrons. The Technician also provide technical support for events held in both theaters, Pilot House, outdoor amphitheater and in designated areas thought the facility. Theater technicians work with a variety of Discovery World staff and outside clients utilizing or renting spaces or equipment for events. The Technician also provides technical support for events throughout the Discovery World Museum including Distance Learning Programs. The ability to work nights, weekends, and have a flexible schedule is mandatory.

Description
As part of the video production team, Discovery World actors provide performances in media productions & live theater shows. In addition, actors perform regularly throughout the Discovery World facility including Innovation Exhibit floor where they compliment the visitor experience by staging or improvising performances that explain or demonstrate exhibits & technology in a theatrical manner. The ability to convey accurate information regarding scientific process and technology though characterization, improvisation & performance is essential. Performers report to the Performance Coordinator. Must have the ability to work weekends and a flexible schedule.

Summer Camp Intern
Goal
To provide assistance to contracted Discovery World education staff and camp coordinator during the summer camp program.
Dates
June 14th-August 27th, 2010 (Monday-Friday) with the possibility of working on Saturdays when needed.
Shift Times
7:45am-4:45pm or 8:45am-5:45pm
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
Act as an assistant to program educators and camp coordinator to meet programming needs.
Assume a proactive role in the classroom as you help students and teachers with various experiments, projects, and activities.
Provide staffing for the extended care area.
Lead camper games and activities during lunch, break periods, and extended care sessions.
Provide supervision for campers to ensure their safety at all times.
Assist in the administrative tasks related to summer programming such as processing paperwork, check-in/check-out, budgets, and supply procurement and maintenance.
Teach camp sessions as needed.
Act as role model and mentor for campers portraying enthusiasm, effective team work, and an over-all good time.
Engage in effective customer service to all camper families and Discovery World guests.
Develop an over-all knowledge of Discovery World programming and exhibits.
Process evaluation reports and develop strategies to compile and store the information gathered.
Provide assistance to education team members in the planning and execution of gallery presentations.
Instruct full weeks of camp on a rotation basis with other interns.

SUMMER CAMP EDUCATOR

Summer Camp Coordinator and Summer Camp Interns
Summary
Independent, motivated, organized person needed to teach interactive camps for Discovery World’s summer program. We are looking for responsible, enthusiastic, customer service-minded individuals to work closely with our Camp Coordinator and Summer Camp Interns to implement Discovery World’s Summer Camp Program. Individuals with experience in the graphic arts, electronics, engineering, robotics, general elementary education, middle school science, and high school biology are strongly encouraged to apply.
Hours
Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:00pm.
Our Camp Program runs from June 21 – August 27
Educators will be assigned week-long camps throughout the summer based on experience and expertise
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and deliver hands-on learning experiences to a wide audience with an emphasis on students aged 7-14 yrs old
Oversee day-to-day management of your camp group
Maintain lab equipment and supplies
Assist guest educators and professionals
Serve as a mentor to interns and students participating in educational programs
JOB REQUIREMENTS
BS/BA in Education or equivalent experience

Lab Educator
Full-Time
40+ hours/week
Description
The lab educator delivers a wide spectrum of lab activities to school groups. The lab educator delivers programs that engage youth and adults in hands-on science as well as in technology centered experiences. The lead lab educator needs to be comfortable with diverse age groups and able to adapt activities to the needs of the group at hand.
The lab educator joins lab/program development teams as directed. He/she will be involved in the creation of media and models related to lab activities. The lab educator in addition to leading programs in Discovery World’s labs also delivers programs via videoconferencing technologies. The lead lab educator is at the front line of customer service as a representative of the organization.
The lab educator is responsible for the inventory and procurement of supplies as well as the upkeep and maintenance of labs.
The lab educator models best practices of informal education for the team of lab educators.

Outreach Presenter

You must possess a valid driver’s license and your own vehicle, as well as an outgoing personality!

Discovery World is always looking for professional crew to work on Wisconsin’s State Flagship, the S/V Denis Sullivan based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
We hire for the following crew positions:
Experienced Mates
We have four main hiring seasons for two- to four-month contracts (all dates are tentative):
May to September: You can experience education programming and sailing on several of the Great Lakes.
September to December: A transit out of the Great Lakes in the fall to the tropical saltwater seas via the St. Lawrence Seaway and the east coast of the U.S.
December to April: Winter education programming centered out of southern Florida with trips to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
April to June: Her return transit in the spring to her homeport at Pier Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI.
Due to the extreme and often inclement conditions of the transits, we prefer to hire crew with proven seaworthiness for the fall and spring, we prefer to secure all contracts in advance.
Required qualifications
All crew must have the legal right to work in
the U.S.
Chief Mate
A Master 100-ton / Mate 200-ton near costal will qualify on a coastal cruise. Open ocean cruise tracks (sometimes on transits) would require an Ocean license.
Licensed 2nd and 3rd mates: are strongly encouraged. However with the approval of the Master of the vessel 2+ years of experience may be sufficient.
Tall ship sailing experience, ability and desire to educate people of
all ages. Additional education experience.
