2. Meet our New Colorful Friends
Join us as we unveil our new addition to the Reiman Aquarium. The exhibit, Weird & Wild – Colorful Freshwater Species from Around the World, will showcase several freshwater species from around the globe. One thrilling new fish you will meet is the Red-bellied piranha. Native to South America, and typically found in the Amazon River Basin, these omnivorous foragers feed on insects, worms, crustaceans, and fish. This exhibit is presented by PPG.
3. Local Organizations Making Waves in the Great Lakes
Fund for Lake Michigan partner organizations will be on-hand to provide interactive activities for all ages. Among the many displays, you’ll see various cold-blooded animals indigenous to Great Lakes watersheds, a demonstration that explains how soil types and organic compost affect water filtration, and much more!
4. What Happens to Lake Michigan When it Freezes?
Through a series of experiments in the Fund for Lake Michigan Freshwater Sustainability Lab, Discovery World’s Jon Wolent will explore what happens to the Great Lakes in the winter. Take a closer look at the animals that live in this environment and how they are affected when the lake freezes.
