SOS: The S/V Denis Sullivan Needs a New Rescue Boat!
Discovery World’s Tall Ship, the Sailing Vessel (S/V) Denis Sullivan, needs your help! Serving as Wisconsin’s official flagship and educational vessel of Discovery World, the Denis Sullivan is in need of a new rescue boat before the schooner and her crew embarks on a journey to various port cities as part of the Great Lakes Tall Ship Festival.
Our 2016 Fundraising Campaign is underway to raise funds for capital and operational goals, and this month we are focusing on the $21,710 needed to buy a new rescue boat. “Our current rescue boat is tired,” said Captain Tiffany Krihwan. “It’s equivalent to a 2004 car model with over 250,000 miles on it.”
The rescue boat is essential to proper function and safety of the sailing experience, as it serves a number of crucial roles while sailing. In addition to being a rescue platform, it also serves as a tugboat, assisting in docking the ship and as a survey vessel that evaluates the docking potential in a new port.
Together, with the help of our members, friends, family, volunteers, and other generous supporters, we’re ecstatic that our fundraising campaign has reached over a third of its final goal of the $21,710, but we still have a way to go.
DONATE TODAY and help maintain the Denis Sullivan’s safety for the crew and its passengers! Every dollar counts!
Thank you for your support!
