Discovery World Offers Single-Day Summer Camps!

In addition to our wonderful week-long camps, we’ve got single-day Summer Camps during the week of July 4, 2018. Explore chemistry, roller coasters, programming, circuits, freshwater ecosystems, design, and more!

Grades 2-3

• Carbonation Chemist -Experiment with extracts to create the perfect flavor for a homemade fizzy drink. Become a carbonation chemist as you introduce bubbles to different foods to make fantastic treats that fizzle and pop!
• Rockin’ Roller Coasters -Ever wondered how a roller coaster works? Explore the history of these thrill machines and learn about the physics behind the fun as you design and build a custom track. Discover what it takes to make the loop-de-loops, twists and turns of a successful roller coaster

Grades 4-5

• Biospheres – Learn all about freshwater ecosystems and the creatures that inhabit them. Examine plankton, explore food webs, and build your own aquatic biome to take home at the end of the day.
• Camp Creativity – Use the tools and materials of the Kohl’s Design It! Lab to explore and create. Nurture your creative side with design challenges and projects to show off at home!
• Made from SCRATCH -Learn how to program with SCRATCH studio – an online, easy-to-use programming language. Create a custom animation, interactive story, and games!
• Lake Monsters– Explore first hand some of Lake Michigan’s aquatic invasive species and the problems they pose to our freshwater ecosystem. Campers will observe preserved specimens under microscopes and learn about the effect these invaders have on the Great Lakes.

Grades 6-8

• Circuit Bending– Circuit bending is the art of purposefully shorting out circuits to reveal hidden sounds and capabilities. Dissect an old toy, explore the circuit, and add buttons and switches to access your hacks.
• Letterpress– Create a one-of-a-kind print as you learn how to use moveable type and a press. Experiment with typography, layout, and design as you use this unique and traditional printing method.
