Sci-Fi Family Day is back at Discovery World!  Join our celebration of all things Science Fiction, Fantasy, and beyond! Interact with beloved costumed characters, explore new worlds through demonstrations and displays, and experience one-of-a-kind performances, all while supporting local fandoms, performers, artists, and makers!

While costumes are encouraged, please remember that this event was created to be friendly for all ages. No excessive gore, real weapons, vulgar language, or excessively revealing costumes will be allowed.


Participants include: 

  • Wisconsin Garrison 501st Legion: An all-volunteer organization that seeks to bring good to their communities and promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality “bad-guy” costumes. Some fans are content to collect action figures…other fans want to be action figures! There’s nothing quite like the feeling that comes from bringing the characters into the real world and sharing the magic with others.
  • Southeast Wisconsin Droid Builders: Check out their Star Wars replica robots, get a photo op with the robots and explore the prototyping process of how they build them!
  • Wisconsin Ghostbusters: Check out this group of cosplayers and prop builders who immensely enjoy the Ghostbusters fandom. Wisconsin Ghostbusters promotes family-friendly events and charitable causes.
  • Dalek Asylum Milwaukee: Come and see screen accurate Daleks, the ‘Doctor Who’ bad guys for the past fifty years build by local prop builders and find out how you can build your own!
  • Kenosha Lego Users Group: Explore Science Fiction themed LEGO creations featuring Star Wars, Marvel Universe, and more!
  • Midwinter Gaming Convention: The Annual Midwinter Gaming Convention features non-digital tabletop games, creator-run events, access to game developers, and Live Action Role-Playing.
  • MilRAWkee: Sci-Fi themed artwork, prints, postcards, 3D printed planters and accessories!
  • Quixotronic: Prints and stickers of popular comic book characters, and live-drawing that will be mirrored on a monitor to teach about digital tools.
  • Beyer Beware: David Beyer is an illustrator, cartoonist, and storyboard artist with a Superboy Podcast.
  • Milwaukee Time Lords: Doctor Who Fan Club will be promoting Doctor Who fanfare and providing information about their club.
  • USS Wisconsin STARFLEET: Star Trek Captain’s chair guests can interact with, streaming of Star Trek episodes/movies, giveaways and promotion of Star Trek Fan Association.
  • Concealed Realms: Meet Mary Virella, author of Sci-Fi books, and take part in some giveaways that include goodies and stickers.
  • Fernwood Designs: Check out some handmade purses, totes, journals, accessories and more that highlight popular fandoms and visit the ‘Awkward Nerd’ Photobooth!
  • Diana’s Snazy Face Painting
    • 9:00am-3:00pm: Local artist with 10 years’ experience doing what she loves! Diana will be changing your view of makeup as she transforms you into a sea creature, alien, and much more!
  • Orion Couling Theater Performances & Shows
    • 10:00am: Join the Inclusion Revolution with No Easy Target
      • Screen the film and meet the Stars of the Award-Winning Star Wars Short Film: No Easy Target! This action-packed film features actors with down syndrome and has been featured and awarded in countless festivals. There will be a panel afterward with the filmmaker and actors to ask questions. Open to all ages but keep in mind there are action scenes.
    • 11:10am: Force Academy
    • 12:30pm: Batman Crime Lab
      • A crime has been committed in Gotham! The police are baffled. How did this happen? What is the evidence at the scene of the crime that might point Batman and other DC heroes to the real supervillain responsible? Join the team as we learn detective skills and unravel the mystery! Featuring investigation tours that you can try at home, this upbeat, science-driven investigation is perfect for the family to experience together.
    • 1:20pm: The Reluctant Dragon!
      • This short play is based upon the classic tale. Come meet the world’s most adorable dragon who loves poetry and prefers a cup of tea over a battle. But what happens when a dragon slayer comes to town? Only one way to find out! Come watch this comedic sketch and meet the cast! Perfect for the whole family to sit, laugh, and relax!
  • Mermaid Echo Aquarium Performances (Please note that space is limited, and these performances are first-come, first-served.)

  • Adam Matthew Ink: Selling nerdy and geek prints from a multi-verse of properties including Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and more!
  • Milwaukee Sci-Fi League: A place for fans to revel in their favorite genre while encouraging and promoting local authors, artists, filmmakers and events!
  • Belle & Nuka: Selling dog leashes, collars, recycled VHS sketchbooks and one-of-a-kind cards.
  • Derek Arneson Art: Derek Arneson is a local artist and Ghostbusters enthusiast that will be showing off and selling artwork.
