CLOSING EARLY @ 3PM ON JULY 29TH FOR ANNUAL GALA READ MORE

THIRST Lab

The THIRST Lab provides a rich environment for the hands-on exploration of water: water as a resource, water as an ingredient, water as opportunity. Students are empowered to explore, experiment, and innovate as they recognize the role water plays in the creation of everyday products.

The Chemistry of Water

45 min
Water Properties

Explore the interesting chemical properties of water. Understand water’s role as a solvent, insulator, conductor, and more. Investigate the properties that make water one of the most unique substances in the universe.

DPI Standards:
Science: C.4.4, D.4.1, D.4.3, D.4.4
Technology and Engineering: EL1.a.2.e
Next Generation Science Standards Addressed: 5-PS1-1, 5-PS1-3, 5-ESS2-1
Bubble Science

45 min
Chemistry, Molecules

Explore the science of what makes bubbles work through a series of hands-on investigations. From surface tension and viscosity to math and physics; discover how to combine science with fun.

DPI Standards:
Science: D.4.4, D.4.5, C.4.5

Test Your Taste Buds

45 min
Food Chemistry, Science of Taste

How does your tongue know the difference between sugar and salt? Students will use their own taste buds in order to learn about the science of taste, and investigate the factors that influence our experiences with food.

Students will be eating food items in this lab. Please let us know if any of your students have allergies and if those allergies are airborne, touch sensitive, or ingestion only.

DPI Standards:
Science: C.4.5, H.4.1
Agriculture, Food, Natural Resources: FPP2.c.2.e
Next Generation Science Standards Addressed: 3-LS3-1, 4-LS1-2
Solving the Disease Mystery

45 min
Microbiology, Health

Explore the microscopic world of fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Students learn the differences and similarities of the microbes that we know as “germs,” investigate how diseases are spread, and defend themselves with a self-made antibacterial sanitizing solution.
