Schedule: Part-time, Fridays-Sundays and Occasional Weekdays

Job Summary

As a Kohl’s Design It! Lab Weekend Attendant you are responsible for providing an excellent customer service experience to participants in all Kohl’s Design It! Lab programs. Weekend Attendants supply participants with the instructions, materials and assistance necessary to help participants create and build projects of their choosing. This person is highly enthusiastic, able to assist all ages, comfortable working in a high-energy environment, and has superb customer service skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

Weekend Experience:

  • Responsible for providing a first-class customer service experience for all guests of the Kohl’s Design It! Lab
  • Ensure that consideration of visitor experience is at the front line of all interactions with the public and other staff members
  • Respond to and resolve guest issues; report areas of ongoing concern to appropriate parties with professional demeanor
  • Must enjoy a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Must demonstrate organization, responsibility, and attentiveness
  • Must maintain a calm demeanor and positive attitude when working with guests and other team members
  • Provide assistance to guests with instruction, materials, and tools needed to create projects provided by all Kohl’s Design It! Lab programs
  • Ensure all guests have a fun and engaging experience
  • Represent the Kohl’s Design It! Team as well as Discovery World during all programming
  • Assist other Kohl’s Design It! Lab team members to ensure that supplies and deliverables used are tracked at the end of each experience
  • Work with Kohl’s Design It! Lab team members to keep the lab spaces, tools and materials organized and presentable for guests, and use of other team members
  • Maintain proper use of lab equipment, computers and materials

Summer Mobile Lab Experiences:

  • Provide excellent customer service to Mobile Lab participants of all ages at off-site locations
  • Deliver hands-on projects at locations off-site/to groups both large and small
  • Continuously work to improve instructional and delivery skills of projects
  • Represent the Kohl’s Design It! Lab and Discovery World in a professional manner
  • Use initiative and enthusiasm at Mobile Lab sites, engage customers in friendly and helpful interactions
  • Respond to and resolve guest issues; report areas of ongoing concern to appropriate parties with professional demeanor
  • Work with participating youth and families to create projects by providing any and all assistance needed

  • Required to work with children and adults ranging in age from 0 – 99 years old
  • Required to stand most of the day
  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (e.g. – machine operation, equipment usage): part of the workday
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 50 pounds: sometimes
  • Required to work with general crafting tools (such as hot glue guns, scissors, precision cutting blades, heat sealers, etc.): often
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, and toxic chemicals, etc.): rarely
  • Required to be exposed to physical environment, which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements: sometimes

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

Education and Experience:

  • 1+ year of formal or informal experience in working with youth and families and/or a customer service field preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and/or Wisconsin State Identification

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills
  • Reliable self-starter; person with initiative
  • Demonstrated experience with front-line customer relations and complaint resolution
  • Ability to be professional and courteous in all interactions with general public and Discovery World staff
  • Ability to effectively present materials and information.
  • Competency in using basic tools (hot glue guns, scissors, etc.) and an interest in “making things”
