Scout Educator (Electronics/Robotics Focus) (Art/General Education Focus)

We are looking for part-time, responsible, enthusiastic, customer service-minded individuals to work closely with the Scout Coordinator to implement Discovery World’s Boy Scout and Girl Scout Program for students ages 8 to 16. The Scout Educator will work primarily in the evenings and on weekends. Individuals with experience in the graphic arts, electronics, engineering, robotics, biology, chemistry, and technology are encouraged to apply.

Hours include, but are not limited to:
Tue, Wed, Thurs, and Fri 4pm-10pm
Saturday 9am-5pm

Responsibilities

  • Develop workshop content and deliver hands-on workshops to Scouts completing requirements to earn badges
  • Deliver programming to 15-25 Scouts Facilitate the proper use of various lab equipment, computers, and materials
  • Deliver workshop content off-site for the Scout Satellite Program
  • Maintain the organization and inventory of supplies, as well as day-to-day up keep of the labs
  • Prep materials and labs prior to Scout workshops
  • Assist guest educators and professionals
  • Serve as a mentor to interns and students participating in educational programs
  • Distribute certificates to Scouts that have completed the workshop
  • Facilitate Scout Program evaluations
  • Assist in the promotion and enhancement of the Scout Program

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Education, Science, Technology or equivalent experience
  • One year of education experience in a formal or informal setting
  • Must enjoy a fast-paced environment and have experience working with youth
  • Comfortable teaching a wide array of subject matter including science, technology, electronics, graphic design and entrepreneurship after adequate training
  • Must demonstrate organization, responsibility, creativity and time management skills
  • Enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexible, problem solver, team player Comfortable supervising assistant educators and volunteers
  • Experience with Girl Scout and/or Boy Scouts is preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills Literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Literacy in Photoshop and Google Sketch-Up is a plus, but not requried
  • Ability to sleep over at Discovery World on Friday nights during the Boy Scout and Girl Scout sleepovers
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle to drive to and from off-site workshops
