Design It! Lab

Build, create, and have fun together!

Bring the whole family to the Kohl’s Design It! Lab and make wonderfully creative projects that you can take home.

The Kohl’s Design It! Lab is fun for the whole family!

Projects can take anywhere from 5-45 minutes, and a Kohl’s Design It! Lab team member will guide you through the use of tools like hot glue guns, heat sealers, and vacuum-formers.

Each month the Kohl’s Design It! Lab staff develops a new theme and new projects, so be sure to visit often!

Totem poles are monuments created to represent and commemorate ancestry, histories, people, and events. Can you assemble a totem pole that best represents you or your family?

It’s the original fidget spinner! Maybe. Probably. Throughout history (and even before history), people have used their imagination and everyday materials to invent toys like these. Make your own version of this fun, twirling, spinning toy that was popular in Colonial America.

John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, was an eccentric frontier nurseryman who established orchards throughout the American Midwest. Tell the story of Johnny Appleseed by making a flipbook.

William F. Cody was known for his ravishing mustache (citation needed), and he came to symbolize the American frontier itself. There is enough room in Discovery World for multiple Buffalo Bills, so get started on your own mustache!

Wish you were here! The Grant Canyon became a National Park in 1919, three
years after the creation of the National Park Service. Today, the Grand Canyon receives close to 5 million visitors each year. Make your own version of this stunning view!

Mount Rushmore was constructed from 1927-1941. The iconic carvings of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln are engraved in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Mount Rushmore has become a symbol of freedom and hope for people of all cultures and backgrounds. The only thing better than making one bobbling head is making four!

Roses have been around for 35 million years and they grow naturally throughout North America. In 1986, the rose was designated as the official flower of the United States of America. Learn how to create your own tissue paper rose keepsake.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from France to the United States. Make your own foam crown to honor the giant copper symbol of freedom.

Discover the Upcycling Wall

Transform old magazines, egg cartons, ribbon, cardboard, yarn, bubble wrap, Popsicle sticks, and other interesting materials into whatever you can think of!

The Kohl’s Design It! Lab is open to all ages. Specific projects will be available for different age groups.
